Mistakes

Mistakes, one too many, that’s what it takes
For a belief to transform, a cynic it makes
Sitting at your corner, sipping on a cup half empty,
Remembering the days gone by, a lost lifetime of self-pity.

No sleep, no peace, no arm to lean on
Never a moment spent without regret,
The cup reads Coffee, it reeks of rum
They told us time and again, never drink to forget.

Time goes by, the world goes on,
And here you sit, a figure forlorn,
A merry giggle lifts your brow at last,
A hint of a smile, all light is not lost.
